When volunteers deepen their involvement by participating on one of our committees, they complete vital administrative functions, helping us build more houses.

Church Relations

The goal of this committee is to engage the faith community in furthering the ministry of Kitsap Habitat to eliminate substandard housing. The committee strives to build partnerships with local faith groups, offering congregations another opportunity to look outside the walls of their churches and put their faith into action. Churches are encouraged to simultaneously provide prayer, volunteer labor, and funding resources for the ministry of Habitat. Your help is needed to keep your church group informed about current activities and what can be done to help. Currently, there is an opening for the Church Relations Committee chair.

Family Partners
Family Partners provide support to the families who are in transition to home ownership. Partnering begins when the family is selected for a Habitat house, and continues through the construction of their home and for several months after the family has moved into their home. Volunteers interested in being a Family Partner should be willing to make a 1-1/2 to 2 year commitment.

The services provided by each Family Partner include assisting their families to meet their commitments prior to and during the construction of their home.  Partners make frequent contact (personal and phone) with the families to establish bonds of friendship and trust.  Partners must attend at least one workday with their family per month while their family's home is being constructed.  The partners meet as a group quarterly to problem solve and support each other in serving their families.

Family Selection Committee
This committee chooses potential families best suited for a Habitat house.  Selection is based on need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner.  The committee holds orientation sessions for all new potential applicants.  They review the newly received applications according to the Family Selection Procedures. When a family has passed through the first few screening processes, 2 to 3 committee members visit the home to look for substandard living conditions, overcrowding, unsafe location, etc. This is a critically important, behind the scenes job.

Hospitality Committee
There is a special place on our jobsites for warm and welcoming people who can make construction volunteers feel at home when they arrive.  Responsibilities include early arrival at the site on scheduled mornings, directing volunteers to the sign-in book, and making sure that new people are welcomed and receive adequate direction.

We also like to show appreciation to our volunteers by providing lunch on Saturdays, and Hospitality Committee members help to locate interested people or groups to help us accomplish this goal.  We invite anyone who is interested to prepare a pot of chili, make sandwiches, or just buy pizza to build the spirit of hospitality and community at our jobsite.

Resource Development Committee
You can combine your passion for the mission of Habitat with your networking skills to help the affiliate expand the reach of its impact.  Resource development committees participate in a number of development activities to increase the amount of financial support Habitat receives from members of the community.  This is a committee with personalized assignments that fit with the extent of members’ skill and contacts.

WomenBuild Committee
The Women Build Committee coordinates the annual Women Build project.  Each year the committee raises the funds for and involves women to build an entire home. The program empowers women to build homes, enabling them to positively impact the lives of children by making homeownership a present reality for families.  Women Build Committee members should be interested in fundraising, coordinating the project, and recruiting more women to be involved.
