As an
AmeriCorps volunteer, you devote an entire year to service at
Kitsap Habitat and, in so doing, make invaluable contributions
to our ongoing work of ending poverty housing.
AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides thousands
of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with educational awards
in exchange for a year or two of community service. AmeriCorps
members help meet the nation's critical needs in the areas of
public safety, education, human needs, the environment, and,
of course, housing. It was created in 1993 with bi-partisan
support from Congress, the President, and community groups nationwide.

of $10,900 paid over 46 ½ weeks. |

of $4,725. The education awards are paid as vouchers by the
National Service Trust, and may be redeemed, within 7 years,
to pay for current education costs at qualified colleges,
universities, other post-secondary institutions and approved
school-to-work programs, or to pay back qualified student
loans already incurred. |

qualified student loans and payment of interest that accrues
during the term of service. |

for relocation costs. |
AmeriCorps VISTA
As a VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) you spend your year of service building the capacity of the affiliate to better serve our community. The idea is that you work behind-the-scenes developing systems, uncovering resources, creating documentation and recruiting volunteers in such a way that all you do will endure after you are gone. Rather than providing direct service in which you would build houses, VISTA is about indirect service in which you help the affiliate successfully build more houses. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills necessary to succeed in the non-profit world.
